Data privacy 'should be taught in schools' →
infoneer-pulse:
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has said that the importance of data privacy and access to official information should be embedded in school lessons.
The ICO is developing a research project to explore ways of making sure information rights issues are covered in primary and secondary education, to back up its stance.

davebloom:
Biggest revelation: all of Jane’s Addiction’s greatest songs were written before the end of 1988 or so. With the possible exception of “Of Course” (certainly not one of their best), Ritual De Lo Habitual is composed of leftovers!
The ramifications are both impressive and thoroughly sad: they took just three years to compose two brilliant, innovative albums’ worth of material...

Toddlers Understand Complex Grammar, Study Shows →
infoneer-pulse:
Children are able to comprehend complex grammar at a younger age than previously believed, a new study shows.
When learning a language, young children must understand the meaning of words as well as how to combine them into a sentence to communicate meaning. Many 2-year-olds rarely combine more than two words together, saying “more juice,” for instance, but not yet forming full...

Court Says College Can Snoop On Students' Email →
infoneer-pulse:
There have been plenty of cases where courts have said that it’s okay for an employer to snoop on (employer-provided) employee email accounts. And now there’s a case saying basically the same thing for colleges and universities. As long as they provided the email system, there’s apparently no violation of anti-snooping or data privacy laws.

Google+ is not a charitable service run for the benefit of users. It, like scores of other free sites, like Facebook, like Tumblr, like Twitter, like Blogger, etc. is a profit-generating machine. The owners of the site make a profit from user content, and on sites like Google+ and Facebook, there’s also a big potential to make a profit through the direct commodification of user identities....
