A growing number of residential wells found to be polluted with gasoline from a July 17 pipeline break and dramatic increases in levels of benzene in the wells prompted state environmental officials Sunday to broaden the search for contaminated groundwater in the town.
As of Sunday afternoon, three more private wells in the Town of Jackson were found to be contaminated with gasoline, bringing the...

Should I feel outraged?
No. Sure, there is plenty of outrage out there. “The sting of this injustice is painful,” Wieber’s coach John Geddert wrote on Facebook in reference to the two-per-country rule. He continued:
“To penalize an athlete or country for being OUTSTANDING is not in the spirit of sport and certainly not the spirit of the Olympic Games. It is wrong and...

The Day You Get Your MFA in Poetry | The Hairpin →
Today your ex-girlfriend will call you. Yes, the ex-girlfriend who moved to Alaska to get back together with her ex-boyfriend (well, her ex-ex, now-current boyfriend) because “the whole gay thing was just a phase.”
“I heard you got your MFA,” she’ll say, in her sultriest tone. “In poetry.”
“I did,” you’ll agree.
“That’s so hot,” she’ll murmur. “I’ve always wanted...

Mary Poppins Will Fight Voldemort at the Olympics,... →
I really, really, really hope this is just misdirection to protect the secrecy of some amazingly-awesome opening ceremony greatness.
Before 40-foot-Voldemort appears, “about 100” children will be wheeled out on hospital beds to perform “a choreographed ‘bed dance,’” which sounds quite sexy but probably is not.
To these one hundredish beds will be added a...

jkottke:
Scouting NY takes a look at some filming locations used by Woody Allen for Annie Hall to see how they’ve changed in the past 36 years.
The most unexpected thing about looking at old photos of NYC is how many fewer trees there were than there are now. (via ★spavis)
Love this.
